The new Vice President of The Gambia, His Excellency Badara Alieu Joof has challenged relevant state institutions to address some ‘pressing challenges’ facing the country.
He first challenged the new Minister of Finance, Minister of Trade, the Governor of the Central Bank, the GRA, and others, to collectively mitigate the ‘crisis of the rising cost of living’ gripping the country.
“There are some pressing challenges that are facing us recently. One is the crisis of the rising cost of living. And I would challenge the Minister of Finance, the Governor of the Central Bank, the incoming Minister of Trade, the GRA to come together, work with the Chamber of Commerce and the business community to see how we could mitigate this difficult time,” Vice President said.
VP Badara Joof later challenged the Minister of interior, the Minister of Defence through the various security outfits of the country to address The Gambia’s security concerns.
He said addressing those ‘pressing challenges’ would make the country safe for everybody, safe for investment, and safe for tourism.
“The second challenge is the security situation in this country. Again, the same challenge goes to the Minister of interior, to the Minister of Defence, to the security outfits of this country and see how best we can address those things so that this place is safe for everybody, safe for investment, safe for tourism. Those two things are immediate,” His Excellency Joof said.
The new Vice president Joof made the remarks earlier Tuesday at the State House after taking his oath of office.
The remarks of the new Vice President followed a series of occurrences in the country from 2017 to date that many perceived as security concerns.
