UDP Brikama North Candidate Dismisses NPP WCR Chairman’s Claim
By Buba Gagigo
Hon. Alhagie S. Darboe seeking re-election as National Assembly Member for the Brikama North Constituency under the United Democratic Party has dismissed the claim by the NPP West Coast Region (WCR) Chairman, Lamin Jatta that he (Jatta) introduced Darboe to politics.
“I was not a politician, I was a youth activist. I came into politics in 2015. It was Lawyer Darboe who advised me to join politics since 2006 but I joined in 2015. When he advised me in 2006, I was not ready yet but in 2015, I walked to his house and told him that I was ready to join politics. I will tell him that he didn’t introduce me to politics. I am a political animal, I decided for myself that it was time to join politics in 2015. In fact, I made you (Jatta) the UDP’s second vice chairman. People told me I will regret putting you in the position because you have a fallout with everyone and you have no respect. I told them you were the youth president for 20-years and it was time to give you that position.
“My positions are given to me based on the advice of Ousainu Darboe. How could you have selected me when you are in Brikama South and I am in Brikama North? I did and completed my campaign, you never stepped your foot in my campaign ground. You are angry because you wanted to mortgage UDP and I got to know. People were calling you chairman and you were not and I told them you are not a chairman, you are second vice chairman. A person who will never betray UDP will be our chairman and that is Yusupha Cham. They plotted a coup d’état against him but it failed. You think I failed your coup d’état, that’s why you are angry. How can you remove me in a place that you did not put me in? Maybe you don’t know, but Adama Barrow knows who Alagie S. Darboe is. Go and ask him,” he responded.
Recently, the National People’s Party (NPP) West Coast Regional Chairman Lamin Jatta claimed that he introduced Alagie S. Darboe to politics; prompting this response from Mr. Darboe during his caravan tour in Brikama Nyambai on Wednesday, while seeking a second term in parliament after serving from 2017-2022 under the UDP ticket.
