President Barrow declares Thursday as public holiday
President Adama Barrow has declared Thursday as a public holiday in observance of the advent of the Muslim New Year also known as ‘Youmul Ashura’.
A statement from the presidency on Tuesday said President Barrow and the “First family pray that the New Year will bring good tidings of peace, stability, progress and development for our country”.
“President of the Republic of The Gambia acting under the provisions of section 76 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia declares Thursday, 20th September, 2018, as a Public Holiday throughout The Gambia in observance of the advent of the Muslim New Year also known as ‘Youmul Ashura’,” a part of the press statement stated.
