The secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in The Gambia is targeting to acquire 395 limousines, 60 of which is expected to be bulletproof, in preparation for the 2019 summit.

The vehicles will be used to transport delegates who will be visiting the country, said head of administration and human resources at the OIC secretariat, Yankuba Dibba.

Dibba told young people at the Friendship hotel on Tuesday that the secretariat plans to build roads, presidential villa and improve the airport facilities, among other things, ahead of the event.

Dibba was speaking to the young people at the commemoration of the OIC youth day organized by the National Youth Council.

Gambia is hosting 2019 OIC summit in November and the small nation is expecting about 2000 delegates including kings and presidents of various member countries.

Gambia will be the second African country to host the summit after Senegal.

Meanwhile, the permanent secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Adam Ngum Njie, said the OIC places huge importance on the development of youths in its member countries.

“Youths are a critical constituent of all OIC member states,” said Njie. The event was attended by various youth leaders and groups from Greater Banjul Area.

Both the chairman of the National Youth Council, Dembo Kambi, and the executive director, Lamin Darboe, spoke of the importance OIC attached to youth development.

OIC is the largest international organization after the United Nations.
