As part of efforts to intensify its visibility for a wider coverage, the Global Youth Innovation Network Gambia chapter (GYIN Gambia Chapter) on Monday, 3rd September 2018, signed a year-long Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kerr Fatou.
The signing took place at the GYIN-Gambia Secretariat in Churchill’s Town at the Youth Entrepreneurship Plaza.
The agreement seeks to create a collaborative partnership to reinforce both institutions’ objectives in complementing each other’s efforts in providing publicity to expose the good work and initiatives of young Gambian entrepreneurs’ on Kerr Fatou TV and other platforms.
Signing on behalf of GYIN Gambia, Mamadou Edrisa Njie, the GYIN Gambia chapter, Executive Director recalled that a recommendation was made by the Nema–Chosso Project Steering Committee (PSC) in 2017 in Jenoi, LRR that the youth network should be supported by Nema-Chosso and other agricultural projects in the country to profile the success stories of young entrepreneurs’ particularly those in the agricultural sector.
“However, the recommendation has still not been implemented and therefore, having Kerr Fatou as a partner will now help us to easily implement those recommendations,” he said.
GYIN Gambia Executive Director went further to call on the agricultural projects and its partners to support this initiative, saying the publicity will expose young Gambian entrepreneurs’.
“This MoU is timely; because we’ve lot of young entrepreneurs who are doing extremely good in the country but are not exposed or have the opportunity to be featured on any platform,” Njie asserted.
Njie has the lack of platform for young businesses has made it difficult for some of them to compete internationally due to lack of online links that they can share in any international competition and platform(s).
He added: “We’ve lot of successful rural young entrepreneurs’ but their stories are not shared thus having Kerr Fatou onboard, we are now hopeful that Gambian stories will be known and seen in a positive way.”
Kerr Fatou’s Communications Officer, Ms. Fatou Jallow signed the MoU on behalf of the media organization. Madam Jallow expressed happiness after appending her signature, noting that it is good that Kerr Fatou and GYIN Gambia chapter entered into an agreement.
She continued: “We’ve been following your initiatives and we deem it necessary to have a partnership so that you can provide us with the contacts of these youth. As a media company that has a stake in the development of the society in which we operate, we think it is necessary to support young entrepreneurs by giving them platform.”
As an independent media outlet, she assured that Kerr Fatou will report accurate and balance stories that will inspire its followers especially the young ones.
Moreover, it is agreed in the MoU that this partnership shall be in force for a period of one year and is subject to review and renewal.
