5000 face masks presented to The Gambia Red Cross society

As part of the fight against Covid-19 in the Gambia, ABM Covid Gambia group, yesterday, presented 2500 face masks to the Gambia Red Cross Society for further distribution in the country.

According to the young Gambian group, this is the first badge of the their locally produced face masks they intend to provide to the Gambia Red Cross Society to be distributed among Gambians.

Speaking during the presentation, Alasan Senghore, National Coordinator for Covid-19 response, thanked the ABM Covid Gambia group for the gesture, adding that the donated face masks would help to enhance the fight against and containment of the coronavirus in the country.

He said, “this presentation is very important and timely as the country continue its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. This kind of efforts and contribution is highly welcomed from groups and organizations both within and outside the country.”

Mr. Senghore therefore called on other associations and organizations to emulate ABM Covid Gambia and similar groups that are contributing immensely in the country’s fight against the coronavirus.

Bintou Camara, ABM Covid Gambia team member said that this is part of their contribution towards the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

“We want to contribute our quota in the fight against Covid-19 in the country by producing face masks and give to the population through the Gambia Red Cross Society. We will be producing it locally by ourselves and for the Gambians,” she said.

Furthermore, she said, they have been engaging in lots of activities since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country, adding that this presentation is the first badge and that they will continue to donate to Red Cross for further distribution to Gambians.

Madam Camara further revealed that their group is not getting any funding from anywhere, that everything they do and are doing is being fully funded by themselves.

Abdoulie Faye, program manager, Gambia Red Cross Society, also thanked the ABM Covid Gambia group for what he described as “a very important donation for Gambians.”

He added that the face masks presented will be distributed among Gambians, and that there would be a criteria with which they would distribute such gestures from ABM Covid group.
