The National Assembly Member for Foni Kansala Constituency, Hon Almameh Gibba, has confirmed to this medium that three Gambian youths below the age of 30 years were shot and killed at the Gambia-Cassamance border on Friday, December 9, 2022.
“We had a tragedy in Foni. We have four youths below the age of 30 who took a horse cart to fetch firewood in the bush. But unbeknownst to them, they crossed the border into Cassamance, Senegal. The villagers heard drone gunshots, and when they went to search for them, three of them were found dead in the bush. The fourth one is found seriously wounded and transported to Banjul for medical treatment. All four victims are from Karinor village, Foni Kansala, the Gambia. The three who died from the drone shot were Demba Colley, Ebrima Colley, and Alagie Manga. Their surviving colleague, Sulayman Colley, is seriously wounded.” Hon Gibba told Kerr Fatou.
This was not the first reported incident of killing of Gambians around the area. One Yankuba Badjie, a Gambian youth from Gifanga village, in Foni, was also allegedly shot last month and killed by the Senegalese soldiers at the border of the Gambia and Cassamance region of Senegal.
