2023 LG Elections: GDC & GAP Have No Aspiring Councilors In KM
By Ramatoulie Jawo
The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) and the Gambia Action Party (GAP) have no aspiring councilors in the Kanifing Municipality (KM) for the 2023 Local Government Elections.
The IEC scheduled today (Friday) for candidates of the GDC and GAP to file their credentials across IEC offices in the country. For the Kanifing Municipality (KM) both parties failed to nominate any aspiring candidates for the upcoming elections.
This medium reached out to the GDC’s Public Relations Officer, Ablie Jallow, who confirmed to our reporter that his party does not have any aspiring councilor candidates in the Kanifing Municipality (KM). Mr. Jallow said they open applications across the country, but nobody applied in KM.
“You know it’s a process, you open applications for people to apply if nobody applied it brings issues like this. You know you cannot force anyone to contest if they don’t want to contest,” he saidMr. Jallow told Kerr Fatou that his Party has 36 candidates across the country, that the Kanifing Municipality is the exception.
“We opened applications across the country. In all the regions in the country but by the time we open applications in Kanifing Municipality, we didn’t have any applicants, that is why we don’t have candidates in KM,” GDC PRO told Kerr Fatou.
The Gambia Action Party’s Public Relations Office, Babucarr Bajo, also confirmed to Kerr Fatou that his party did not put up any Candidate in Kanifing Municipality.
The Gambia for All and Gambia Moral Congress are expected to file their nomination papers across IEC Offices in the country tomorrow.
