Sixteen Gambian journalists are being trained to counter the upsurge of misinformation and disinformation [‘Fake news’] ahead of the December poll.
The 3-day fact-checking training which is taking place at a local hotel in Senegambia would run from 2nd to 4th August.
It is meant to equip the journalists with the relevant skills to verify information before publication and/or broadcast to the public.
The event is organised by ‘Dubawa’, a fact checking and verification platform that Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism [PTCIJ] has promoted for over three years.
Dubawa is a Hausa term which means ‘to check’, operating in Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia and today’s event, The Gambia.
Skills acquired during the session would equip the participants to swiftly counter the increase in the spread of misinformation and disinformation, by influential persons, groups and organisations within the country and beyond across.
